Dragonfruit Sales Surge Past $10 Billion in 2024
With a surge in consumer appeal, Yellow and Red Dragonfruit are becoming part of the mainstream produce offerings
global dragonfruit sales exceed 10 Billion USD
First, it was the kiwi. Then the avocado.
Every few years, an “exotic” fruit makes its way into the mainstream. With over $10 Billion dollars in annual sales, it’s clear that dragonfruit is now transitioning into the mainstream produce offerings.
MORE THAN A TREND.
The growing awareness of the nutritional benefits of dragon fruit like its high antioxidant content and potential to boost immunity, is a significant driver. Health-conscious consumers are increasingly incorporating dragon fruit (and pityaya) into their diets.
The impact of the dragon fruit market in the USA extends beyond just consumer health benefits. It includes economic benefits for farmers, especially those engaging in sustainable farming practices. The market growth also supports related industries such as logistics, retail, and food processing, creating a multiplier effect on the economy.
The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) noted that the consumption of exotic fruits has grown annually, driven by the expanding Asian and Latin American populations in the U.S., as well as an overall spike in interest in exotic fruit.
Goldenberry Farms® offers red/white, red/red, as well as yellow dragonfruit, sold individually and also in our popular clamshell (2 for 1) presentation. We offer conventional and organic varieties from our farms and partner growers in Ecuador and Colombia, with full social and GAP certifications.
The growing awareness of dragon fruit's health benefits has significantly driven its demand in the USA. According to a report by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), the antioxidants present in dragon fruit can help reduce oxidative stress, which is linked to chronic diseases.
Goldenberry Farms’ Marketing team partners with distributors and grocers to help them merchandise and increase awareness and sales of dragonfruit.
Our bulk and clamshell fruit is available with consumer QR codes that offer storage and use tips, recipes, nutritional information, and more!

Dragonfruit Handling and Display Tips
(for produce managers)
Don't stack high, dragonfruit fruit softens as it ripens.
Dragonfruit stays (holds) best at 45ºF.
Store separately: Keep dragon fruit away from ethylene-producing fruits like apples and bananas, which can speed up ripening
Merchandising: A stem-end-down display works best.
Keep dragonfruit dry, do not use misters.
Avoid over-ripe fruit: Over-ripe dragon fruit will have lost all of its firmness and the flesh will begin to brown.
